BRATTLEBORO UNION HIGH SCHOOL

BRATTLEBORO, VT

Brattleboro Union High School is hiring a certified Athletic Trainer to run and support student-athlete healthcare across its athletic programs. This is a school-based AT role with real responsibility, autonomy, and direct impact on athlete safety, return-to-play decisions, and day-to-day care.

If you like working in a high school setting, building relationships with kids and families, and being the go-to medical professional in an athletic department, this role checks those boxes.

The Windham Southeast School District serves an increasingly diverse community and places a strong emphasis on equity, inclusion, and student support. Candidates should be comfortable working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

The Work (What You’ll Actually Be Doing)

You’ll be the Head Athletic Trainer for the school, practicing within Vermont state regulations and current best practices.

That includes:

  • Running the athletic training program for high school athletics

  • Evaluating injuries, providing first aid, treatment, rehab, and reconditioning

  • Making physician referrals and coordinating care with local providers

  • Covering home practices and games from fall through spring

  • Managing concussion protocols and maintaining the Emergency Action Plan

  • Handling medical clearance and return-to-play for injured athletes

  • Communicating directly with parents about injuries and care plans

  • Working with coaches on conditioning, injury prevention, and sport-specific needs

  • Keeping the athletic training room organized, stocked, and functional

  • Maintaining daily treatment logs, injury reports, and required documentation

  • Ordering supplies, tracking inventory, and submitting an annual supply budget

  • Equipping teams with appropriate medical gear and handling taping, braces, and pads

  • Monitoring environmental conditions to keep athletes safe

  • Coordinating required medical training and certifications for coaches

  • Educating staff and coaches on wellness center use

  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director (because it’s a school setting)

You’ll work closely with the Athletic Director, coaches, families, and local healthcare providers and be embedded in the day-to-day life of the athletic department.

  • Current BOC certification and CE compliance

  • Vermont athletic trainer licensure
