Welcome to another edition of the Athletic Trainer Finder Weekly Digest.This marks our sixth weekly digest and our second edition in February. If you missed it, I also released the January Job Market Summary last week, which broke down every position we tracked throughout the month. If you want a clearer pulse on where the market actually stands, not just where it’s advertised, that’s worth a read.


This week’s job market was fairly ho-hum. A large chunk of postings landed in the familiar mid-$50K to high-$60K / low-$70K range. Nothing here really jumped off the page, and there weren’t many roles that forced a second look. The broader trends we’ve been seeing continued: solid volume, mixed quality, and wide variability in how employers value the position.


One notable shift, though, is that we’re starting to see more postings for the 2026–2027 school year. That’s an early signal that some schools and organizations are trying to get ahead of the hiring cycle. If you’re considering a move for next year, now is the time to start paying attention. Staying plugged into the weekly digest will give you a much better sense of what’s coming before positions quietly disappear or get filled internally.


A new wrinkle this week was the appearance of a couple of hybrid/virtual athletic training positions, something we haven’t seen much of in the first six weeks of tracking. With the rise of virtual AT and telehealth-style provider companies, this was probably inevitable—but it’s also understandably polarizing within the profession.

Let’s be clear: virtual athletic training is not a replacement for on-site, hands-on care. You lose the ability to perform in-person evaluations, assess movement in real time on the field or court, and build the same day-to-day relationships that are foundational to traditional athletic training. That matters.


At the same time, there are legitimate use cases where virtual AT roles can add value. Services like initial triage, care coordination, follow-ups, return-to-play check-ins, basic home exercise programming, and continuity of care are all areas where virtual models can be effective when used appropriately. From the clinician’s perspective, these roles may also offer more flexible schedules and a different kind of efficiency, less “hurry up and wait,” and more consistent patient interaction during scheduled hours.


In many ways, the emergence of these roles says as much about the current workforce shortage as it does about innovation. Some organizations are experimenting because they simply cannot staff positions in the traditional way. Whether virtual athletic training becomes a long-term complement to in-person care or remains a stopgap solution will depend heavily on how responsibly it’s implemented.

Athletic Trainer

Hobbs, NM

$70,000.00–$85,000.00

What makes this role interesting isn’t just the salary transparency, it’s the inclusion of a virtual component in a clinic/college-based setting. That immediately changes the day-to-day expectations and adds flexibility that most roles don’t offer.

The pay floor is solid for the region, which makes the position financially viable rather than a gamble. As with any in-person/hybrid role, patient volume and workflow still matter, but the blend of in-person and virtual care makes this one worth slowing down for.



Certified Athletic Trainer

Vail, CO

$65,000.00–$68,000.00

When Steadman posts a role, it’s naturally going to draw attention, and this one is no different. The appeal here isn’t just the name, but the chance to work in a high-level orthopedic and sports medicine environment alongside specialists.

The salary range is tight and clearly stated, which helps set expectations, but it’s important to be realistic about the location. Vail’s cost of living is roughly 63% higher than the national average, so this role is more intriguing for the experience and exposure than for the financial upside. For ATs prioritizing clinical depth and résumé value, this is worth slowing down for.



Athletic Trainer

Tavernier, FL

$62,700.00–$102,300.00

This is a secondary school posting that’s worth attention because it actually puts numbers on the table. The range is wide, but the upper end is far above what most school districts are offering, which signals real investment rather than lip service.

Given how many districts are still struggling to staff AT positions, this reads like a system that understands the market has shifted. It’s worth asking how placement within the range is determined, but the transparency alone puts this ahead of many school-based roles.



Head Athletic Trainer – USA Eagles Men’s 15s

Glendale, CO

$50,000.00

National governing body roles don’t come around often, which naturally makes this one interesting. The posting references travel and non-traditional schedules, but it isn’t especially clear on what the day-to-day or seasonal time demands actually look like.

That lack of clarity makes it difficult to evaluate whether the $50,000 salary is fair. Without a better understanding of weekly workload, travel expectations, and how coverage is shared, it’s hard to know how this role stacks up in terms of sustainability. For ATs considering this type of position, those are questions that would need to be answered early in the process.

Fort Bliss, TX

$61,000–$63,000 (annual)

This full-time Athletic Trainer position at Fort Bliss, TX, with Resolution Think, LLC, offers a salary range of $61,000-$63,000 to optimize soldier readiness and performance as part of a Holistic Health and Fitness Performance Team. The role involves forward MSK care, injury prevention, and reconditioning in various military settings, requiring a CAATE-accredited Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience. The company provides a robust benefits package, including a 401K match, health benefits, NATA dues reimbursement, professional development funding up to $500/year for offline CEUs, and tuition reimbursement up to $3,000/year.


Athletic Trainer (SMIP)

Twenty Nine Palms, CA

$71,500(annual)

This is a full-time Athletic Trainer position in 29 Palms, CA, with a competitive annual salary of $71,500, offering comprehensive health benefits, 401K matching, and various professional development and tuition reimbursement programs. The role requires a Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, focusing on injury prevention and optimizing performance for active-duty military personnel. Key benefits include full reimbursement for BOC certification, state licensure, and National Athletic Trainer Association dues, along with up to $3,000 annually for tuition reimbursement and $500/year for offline CEUs.

This was one of those weeks where prestige carried more weight than usual because, frankly, the broader market was underwhelming. When there aren’t many roles that clearly raise the bar on pay or structure, recognizable names and unique experiences naturally stand out more. Some weeks will look like this, and that’s okay. The key is still the same: know what you’re trading off, ask direct questions, and don’t confuse brand recognition with long-term fit.
